The Iowa Insurance Division announced that insurance producer examinations will be available in an online format through OnVUE online proctoring by Minneapolis-based testing company Pearson VUE, beginning Nov. 12. “This new process will help insurance producers be able to sit for their examinations at their office or at home while still safeguarding the integrity of the examination,” Iowa Insurance Commissioner Doug Ommen said in a press release. The OnVUE system provides a seamless testing experience with a simple download of the application and self check-in process. Candidates provide their own computer and a private room to take the exam, during which they’re monitored by a live proctor through the webcam and microphone to safeguard the integrity of the exam. Pearson VUE has been the state’s contracted examination and continuing education vendor since 2006 and won competitive bids in 2011 and 2016. No state funds are paid in the contract; Pearson VUE receives payment through testing fees paid by applicants. License applicants will pay the same fees to Pearson VUE for the online examination as they pay for in-person exams, division spokesman Chance McElhaney said. The online option will be offered on an ongoing basis beyond the pandemic, he said. More information on the OnVUE program is available here.
