Iowa lawmakers look at expanding grounds for disciplining school officials

Des Moines Register: Prompted by a fight with Des Moines Public Schools officials over in person learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, Iowa Senate Republicans are advancing a bill that would expand the reasons for disciplining superintendents and school board members. The bill would expand the grounds for removing school board members from office to include “knowingly and intentionally” violating federal or state laws governing the operation of a school. One provision would specifically target Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Tom Ahart’s license. A Senate subcommittee advanced the bill Tuesday.
