Iowa fantasy sports players would be able to bank their winnings, as the majority of players can elsewhere, under a bill to be reconsidered in the Iowa Legislature, The Des Moines Register reported. The Senate approved the bill last year, but it stalled in the House of Representatives. Rep. Jake Highfill, R-Johnston, the chief author of the House bill, said he’s reworking the proposal to gain support. “People love fantasy sports, and I am hearing about this all the time back home,” Highfill said. An estimated 354,000 Iowans play fantasy sports, according to the Chicago-based Fantasy Sports Trade Association. Players draft teams of college and professional athletes, and based on statistics from actual contests, compete against others in their league or game. It’s a $1 billion industry internationally.
