Iowa post office closures postponed
The U.S. Postal Service will delay planned closures and consolidations of Iowa post offices until May 15, Gov. Terry Branstad announced yesterday.  Branstad said he opposed the post office closures because they were disproportionate and put too much of the burden on rural Iowans. In September, he co-authored letters with Lohrville Mayor Donny Hobbs and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn calling for the Postal Service’s’ reconsideration. Branstad has said his ownership of about 12 post office buildings in the state is not a conflict of interest because only one of them, the Lohrville post office, is among the 178 slated for closure.
