Iowa ranks fifth in the nation for the overall well-being of residents who are 55 and older, according to a Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index report released today. Nationally, older Americans have higher well-being compared with younger adults, and the research found that well-being actually improves with age. People 75 and older have even higher well-being than those 65 to 74, and they outscore younger people by a wide margin. Older Americans generally worry less about money and also have better access to health care, according to the report. Iowa ranked in the top 10 in three of the five factors measured: community (second); financial (fourth); and purpose (seventh). Hawaii was ranked the top state, followed by Montana, South Dakota and Alaska. Click here to download the report.
