Iowa records its wettest 12-month period
Iowa’s weather through May marked the state’s wettest 12-month period on record. May was the sixth-wettest for that month, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources reported. “River flooding continues to be of concern on both the Missouri and the Mississippi rivers,” said Tim Hall, the DNR’s coordinator of hydrology resources. Temperatures were cooler than normal in May. The 12-month period was the 34th-coolest in 124 years of records. Many rivers and creeks had above-average flow.
