Des Moines Register: A Republican proposal to cut unemployment insurance benefits won approval from the Iowa House Committee early today after a contentious, 5 1/2-hour hearing. Committee Chair Rep. Dave Deyoe, R-Nevada, said he is pushing the legislation, House Study Bill 203, to slow the amount of money being drained from the state’s unemployment trust fund. Companies’ employment tax rate increases or decreases each year based in part on the size of the trust fund.
