Iowans registered 33,260 new businesses between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021, breaking a previous record of 24,720 new registered businesses set in the previous fiscal year, Secretary of State Paul Pate said in a statement this week. Iowans set records for most new business filings in a single month twice during fiscal 2021: In January, 2,940 new businesses were filed, then in March 3,579 new businesses were filed. The previous record for most new business filings in one month was 2,512 in May 2019.
