Nine of the 17 Iowa-based companies on the Business Record’s Iowa Index posted stock price gains for the month of August. No company posted double-digit percentage gains in the month. Eight Iowa-based stocks posted losses, with two being double-digit percentage losses.

Workiva Inc. had the largest gain of the month with an 8.09% increase. Workiva also had the largest gain in July. Principal Financial Group Inc. had the second-biggest August gain at 7.53%. United Fire Group Inc. had the third-biggest with a 4.17% increase.

Renewable Energy Group Inc. posted the biggest percentage loss at 20.95%. Lee Enterprises Inc. had the second-biggest loss with a 16.75% decrease. Art’s Way Manufacturing Co. was third with an 8.67% decrease.

Winnebago Industries announced on Aug. 18 that it will shift its corporate headquarters address from Forest City, Iowa, to Eden Prairie, Minn., effective Dec. 1.

The Iowa Index, an unweighted average price of 17 Iowa-based public companies, increased 0.59% in August, compared with a 4.00% increase in the Nasdaq stock index and a 1.22% increase in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

The Iowa-based companies that make up the Iowa Index are in bold in this list of companies with sizable operations in the state.
