Thirty-one Iowa students received top honors and recognition last week at the 2015 Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest at the University of Maryland. The award recipients were among 67 students who represented Iowa in competition with 3,000 other students from around the world, said Susan Kloewer, State Historical Society director. National History Day is a yearlong education program that engages students in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics. Working individually or collaboratively in groups of two to five, students produce dramatic performances, imaginative exhibits, multimedia documentaries, research papers and websites based on research related to an annual theme. The theme for 2015 is “Leadership and Legacy in History.” To see a list of the Iowa award winners, click here.
