Iowans pick favorite architecture

The Sands Vertical Expansion at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines has been named the winner of the fifth annual People’s Choice Award sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter. The addition to Broadlawns was designed by Shive Hattery Architects + Engineers. During a five-day period in April, Iowans voted on their favorite architecture designed by Iowa architects. Twelve projects were submitted for consideration. The second-place finisher was the John H. White Jr. Hall of Sciences at Southeastern Community College in Lincoln, Neb. The project was designed by DLR Group. The third-place finisher was Linn-Mar Intermediate School in Marion. It was designed by OPN Architects. Nearly 3,000 votes were cast for the award.
