Iowa Public Radio has achieved a record high average of weekly listeners — 260,200, based on the most recent Nielsen Audio survey. This is the second year IPR has averaged more than a quarter-million listeners per week, according to a release. The spring 2017 Nielsen Audio survey was made up of listeners age 12 and older in IPR’s primary service area. The increase coincides with National Public Radio member stations across the country, which are up to a total of 99 million monthly listeners and have seen growth for five consecutive months. NPR found after the election that both “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered” retained their listeners and notes an increase in diverse audiences tuning in to the programs, with 28 percent of the audience tuning in at least once a month made up of the 25-to-54-year-old millennial and Gen X generations, according to the release.
