ISU campus gaining more apartments and retail space this fall

Two construction projects are bringing about 615 beds and 13,000 square feet of retail space to the Iowa State University campus area. The Opus Group of Minneapolis expects to open the Foundry retail and luxury apartment development by fall. The six-story building will have 7,500 square feet of retail space and 53 apartment units with a total of 144 beds. Gilbane Development Co. of Rhode Island is bringing new construction and a building renovation that will be marketed under one brand, BlockONE. The company is refurbishing and updating interiors at University Towers on Lynn Avenue, building a six-story apartment building above the University Towers parking lot and expects to finish construction in August on another apartment building. The Gilbane development will bring a total of 470 beds with about 5,300 square feet of retail space to the campus area, according to a release.
