Carl Weems is the new professor and chair of human development and family studies at Iowa State University. He comes to Iowa State as the Department of Human Development and Family Studies is broadening its focus to include all aspects of family health and well-being — not just physical health but also mental health, socioeconomic status and relationships, according to a release. A developmental scientist and psychologist, Weems most recently served as a professor and associate chair of psychology at the University of New Orleans, where he worked since 2001. He succeeds Gong-Soog Hong, who returns to the faculty after serving as professor and chair of the department since 2010.
