ISU names new vice president of research


Iowa State University announced Thursday that Peter K. Dorhout has been named vice president of research. Dorhout currently serves as the vice president of research at Kansas State University, where he also is a professor of chemistry. He will begin his new role in Ames by Jan. 25, 2021. ISU President Wendy Wintersteen said Dorhout comes to Iowa State with “an impressive portfolio of accomplishments” as an internationally renowned chemist, collaborator and forward-thinking leader. Dorhout has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois, a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and completed a postdoctoral position at Iowa State and the U.S. Department of Energy Lab in Ames. Dorhout said in a release that he is excited to join the world-class researchers and programs at ISU and build on its strengths in biosciences and engineering. “I also look forward to working with faculty and students to support their entrepreneurial efforts, and helping bring their discoveries to the marketplace,” he said.
