Iowa State University wants to expand the practice of charging higher tuition for high-demand majors, known as differential tuition, in a move that would encompass just under half of ISU’s undergraduate majors, the Des Moines Register reported. The majority of the additional programs that would require higher tuition are within the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. The additional revenue would be used for faculty and staff salaries, lab renovations and technology updates. The Iowa Board of Regents is scheduled to consider the proposal at its meeting today.
