Jacobs-Young named to World Food Prize Foundation’s Council of Advisors
Chavonda Jacobs-Young, acting under secretary for the Research, Education and Economics mission area and acting chief scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture has joined the World Food Prize Foundation’s Council of Advisors. According to a recent announcement, her permanent position with the USDA is administrator of agricultural research service, the agency’s in-house research agency. On the council, Jacobs-Young will review, advise and guide World Food Prize leadership on policies and the design and implementation of Foundation programs. She will also participate in appointing members to the Laureate Selection Committee and endorse the committee’s selection of a new laureate each year. “The Council will value Dr. Jacobs-Young’s expertise as the Administrator, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, but equally so for her passion to advance agriculture and food technology while inspiring the next generation of professionals,” said Paul E. Schickler, Chairman of the Council and member of the Board for the Foundation. Barbara Stinson, World Food Prize Foundation president, said Jacobs-Young’s “science background and extensive experience inspiring young professionals in agriculture will be essential to expanding the Foundation’s youth programs across the globe.”
