About: Known as the Market District of the East Village, this area of downtown Des Moines has a fascinating history of primarily industrial and municipal government uses, yet the current wave of new investment in the area is changing this neighborhood. A 2018 master planning effort explores what the Market District could be, mixing land uses among residential, commercial, retail, recreational, and civic uses, while emphasizing improved mobility for pedestrians, bikes, and vehicles. The city of Des Moines has a unique opportunity to redevelop this emerging urban neighborhood in a responsible and sustainable way for the enjoyment of future generations. Learn how the planning has unfolded, hear about revitalization efforts that are underway, and discuss place making and economic development strategies intended to foster a new wave of urban redevelopment. Featured presenters: Joe Spradling with HDR will join Ryan Moffatt and Erin Olson-Douglas with the city of Des Moines to present the plan and discuss the opportunities for this area.Register here
