Wild Rose Casino & Resort Jefferson has been open for a little more than a year now after obtaining what might have been the last casino license issued by the state of Iowa, and its performance numbers are providing a reason to celebrate. In the past year, nearly 550,000 people from 22 states have passed through the turnstiles and 25,000 people have attended shows, concerts, meetings and conventions, according to a release. At least 2,000 people per month visit the facility for reasons other than gambling, with 7,500 attending personal, family and business functions over the last year. About $1.1 million in revenues has been given to cities, schools, community projects and nonprofit organizations in Greene and nearby counties. “It’s been a successful year by any number of metrics,” President Tom Timmons said in the release. The operation supports 230 jobs with $6 million in annual payroll and benefits. A birthday celebration begins at 7 p.m. today with a concert by the band Hairball scheduled for 9 p.m.
