Months after window and door manufacturer Jeld-Wen closed its Grinnell factory, the company announced the shuttering of a factory in Oregon. In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act document dated May 1, Jeld-Wen announced the closure of its Chiloquin, Ore., facility, affecting 128 workers. Most of those workers will lose their jobs on June 30, while a few will stay on until December. At Jeld-Wen’s Grinnell factory, 150 workers lost their jobs in October and another 298 layoffs were announced in January. The company started in 1960 in Oregon and is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C. Over the years, it grew to employ 16,000 people across 14 countries. Jeld-Wen was founded by Richard Wendt, whose father, Lester Wendt, was an executive at Dubuque-based Caradco. Jeld-Wen eventually acquired Caradco. Jeld-Wen has also closed factories in California and Wisconsin in recent years.
