Johnson to lead rights commission

Gov. Kim Reynolds nominated Administrative Law Judge Elizabeth Johnson of Iowa Workforce Development as executive director of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission. Johnson, who previously was a staff member at the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, begins her new job Aug. 26. She also worked as a lawyer in private practice and at the Iowa Department of Revenue. Johnston has a bachelor’s degree in art history from Clarke College (now Clarke University) in Dubuque, and a law degree from the University of Iowa. The Iowa Civil Rights Commission enforces state and federal anti-discrimination laws. Johnson’s appointment is subject to Iowa Senate confirmation.
