Des Moines-based Johnsrud Transport Inc. has agreed to merge with Cliff Viessman Inc. of Gary, S.D. Both family-owned operations are food-grade transportation firms, with Johnsrud specializing in bulk food-grade liquids and Viessman hauling diverse food products. Under the merger, each company will operate under their existing trade names. Viessman has 11 terminals in six Midwest states and Johnsrud has three. All Johnsrud employees have been retained, and Jackie Johnsrud will remain CEO. The company has operated out of Des Moines for more than 50 years. Viessman was founded as a milk delivery service in 1961. The combined companies will serve all continental U.S. states and Canada. “We believe we have found an ideal partner in the Viessman family,” Jackie Johnsrud said in a statement. The terms of the transaction, which is expected to close in late September, were not disclosed. Johnsrud was advised by NCP Inc., RSM and the Davis Law Firm. Viessman was advised by Lawrence Cumpston & Associates and Stoneberg, Giles & Stroup PA.
