Crown Point Community Center in Johnston will undergo a $4.6 million renovation that includes several sustainability initiatives to promote eco-friendly practices, the city announced. The Johnston City Council this week approved the renovation project to Munro Construction, which submitted the low bid. Renovations to the center, located at 6300 Pioneer Parkway, include installation of solar panels; replacement of the heating and cooling system; and the installation of new energy-efficient windows, lighting fixtures and water-saving toilets and sinks. Also, an addition will be added to the center that will create more space in the community room. The renovations are expected to begin in mid-January. The center will be closed to the public beginning Jan. 19.
