Ostert replaces Doug Sandvig, who recently retired. Ostert previously worked for the city of Ames as an inspector, plans examiner and assistant building official. Before working for Ames, he was a master electrician. He has a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University. Ostert, whose annual salary is $93,000, started his new job with the city of Johnston on Monday.
