About: Investigative journalist and Rolling Stone contributor Jeff Goodell’s latest book, “The Water Will Come: Rising Seas, Sinking Cities, and the Reshaping of the Civilized World,” was inspired by his research on rising sea levels, Hurricane Sandy and, more specifically, his reporting for a Rolling Stone story called “Goodbye, Miami.” Here in Des Moines, he’ll discuss how a changing climate could massively reshape cities around the world, perhaps much sooner than we think. Before his talk, state historian Laura Sadowsky of the State Historical Society of Iowa will share a few stories about how Des Moines grew up on the banks of two occasionally unruly rivers.
