Bret Tratchel, the general manager of Junk King Des Moines and Waterloo, will oversee daily operations alongside a crew of haulers. The new owners’ goal is “continuing to strengthen relationships with the community and deliver excellent customer service,” the company said in a release. Tratchel has more than 30 years of experience in the transportation industry as well as extensive knowledge of building businesses from scratch. Junk King, which offers residential and commercial services, bases its pricing on the amount of junk removed and recycles up to 60% of junk collected rather than sending it to landfills. “My team and I place a lot of value in the work we do every day,” Tratchel said. “We feel grateful that we can help the Des Moines and Waterloo communities keep items out of its landfills while reducing our impact on the environment as a whole.” According to the franchise website, Junk King was started by two friends in a two-car garage in San Carlos, Calif., in 2005, and began franchising in 2010. The company now has more than 100 franchise locations across North America. More information is available online at Junk King Des Moines and Junk King Eastern Iowa.
