A Polk County jury on Friday convicted Nebraska film and video producer Dennis Brouse of first-degree fraud for his role in the Iowa Film Office tax credit fraud case, the Iowa Attorney General’s Office said in a release. Brouse, 64, of Plattsmouth, Neb., produced and starred in the public television and DVD series “Saddle Up With Dennis Brouse,” a program that featured Brouse training difficult horses. Brouse, owner of Changing Horse Productions, applied for Iowa tax credits through the state’s film tax credit program. Attorney General Tom Miller alleged that Brouse caused false statements to be made in expenditure documents submitted to the state. Brouse was convicted in March 2012 for the same fraud charge, a Class C felony, which carries a maximum 10-year sentence. Brouse appealed, and in April the Iowa Court of Appeals reversed the verdict. A sentencing hearing has been schedule for March 23.
