Justice Department conducts antitrust review of banks
The U.S.Justice Department is performing an antitrust review of banks and their trade associations, looking at their statements and actions related to possible increases in consumer fees for using debit cards, Bloomberg reported.
“Please be assured that if it finds that individuals, banks or other parties may have violated the antitrust laws, the department will take appropriate action,” Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich wrote in a letter that was released today by Rep. Peter Welch, a Democrat from Vermont who had requested an investigation.
