A new outfitter is now offering kayak rentals at the Northwest 70th Avenue access point along Beaver Creek, which officials with the city of Johnston and the Central Iowa Water Trails Incubator say will help connect Johnston to other water networks in the region. “Water trails are an important quality of life amenity for residents and visitors, and we are thrilled to see a private business grow from our efforts to activate the water,” Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfeld said in a news release. The access point, just east of 86th Street, was completed last August, and is the first completed of the 86 water trail projects in the region. Quarry Springs Outfitters of Colfax is now offering kayak rentals at the Northwest 70th Avenue access point through Labor Day.
