KCCI wins national Edward R. Murrow Award
KCCI-TV has been honored with a national Edward R. Murrow Award for Feature Reporting by the Radio-Television News Directors Association.
Anchor/Reporter Steve Karlin and Photojournalist Dan Bolsem won the prize for their story, “Lake Robbins Ballroom,” which detailed the Sunday evening ballroom dances held there and the 98-year-old woman who’s operated the ticket booth since 1931.
KCCI, a CBS affiliate owned by Hearst-Argyle Television Inc., was the only Central Iowa television station to win a national award. It’s the third national Murrow award in the history of the station, which received an overall excellence award in 2004. In 2003, Reporter Eric Hanson and Photojournalist Jeff Christian won for videography of their “Garage Band” feature.
The RTNDA has recognized outstanding achievement in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. This year’s national winners will be honored at the RTNDA Awards Dinner on Oct. 15 in New York.
