Kum & Go LC has placed a bid for the Dahl’s Foods store at 50th Street and E.P. True Parkway in West Des Moines, according to documents filed in the bankruptcy reorganization of the grocer’s parent, Foods Inc.

A closed auction for Dahl’s assets was conducted over two rounds of bidding that concluded Jan. 23. According to court documents, Kum & Go placed a bid for the West Des Moines store, one of the few properties still owned by Foods Inc. after it entered sales-and-lease agreements with Kansas City, Kan.-based Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc. for a majority of its Greater Des Moines locations, and closed and sold others stores outright.

A hearing to accept or reject offers from Kum & Go and other bidders, including an amended bid from AWG, which established a starting point for the auction as the stalking horse bidder in Foods Inc.’s $41 million Chapter 11 bankruptcy case, is scheduled for Friday before Judge Anita Shodeen in Des Moines. Dahl’s filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 9.

In addition to Kum & Go’s offer for the store at 5003 E.P True, Judge Shodeen will consider offers from Equity Ventures Commercial Development for the property at 8700 Hickman Road in Clive, and pharmacy assets of the E.P. True and Hickman stores as well as a store at 3400 E. 33rd St. in Des Moines.

“We have expressed interest in some of the debtor’s pharmacy assets, but until the bankruptcy court issues a definitive ruling we can’t confirm anything,” Hy-Vee spokeswoman Tara Deering-Hansen said in an email.

The name of the entity that has made an offer for Dahl’s pharmacy assets is not included in court files.

A spokesperson for Kum & Go could not immediately be reached for comment.
