Kurovski announces run for Polk County supervisors seat

147 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and LawSara Kurovski, mayor of Pleasant Hill, today announced plans to run for the Polk County Supervisor District 3 seat currently held by Steve Van Oort. Kurovski, a Republican, is in her second term as mayor of the eastern Polk County suburb. She has also served on the Polk County Conservation Board, has been a member of the Iowa Municipal Workers Compensation Association, a member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization, and a delegate to Israel and Southeast Asia as a member of the American Council of Young Political Leaders. Kurovski works at United Way of Central Iowa as director of the Tocqueville Society. In a release, she said she is seeking the county supervisor seat to bring “transparency and accountability to county government.” VanOort, who has not announced whether he’ll seek re-election, has been on the county supervisor board since 2012. He previously was mayor of Ankeny.
