Des Moines Register: A Democratic lawmaker has filed a lawsuit alleging Gov. Kim Reynolds illegally transferred $13 million out of the state’s economic emergency fund in an effort to avoid a special legislative session and balance the budget. Rep. Chris Hall, D-Sioux City, filed the suit against Reynolds, a Republican, and her budget director, David Roederer. Reynolds’ spokeswoman Brenna Smith said in an email that “this is a political lawsuit with political motivations, plain and simple.” State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald, an elected Democrat, first raised questions about the legality of the transfer shortly after it was announced.
