Iowa native and current NFL free agent Allen Lazard has been named the 2023 Robert D. and Billie Ray Pillar of Character Award recipient by the Robert D. and Billie Ray Center at Drake University. The award is presented annually to individuals who demonstrate good character and serve as role models. Lazard, who previously played for the Green Bay Packers, will accept the award on April 14 at the Ray Center’s All-Star Evening in West Des Moines. The event is presented by Hy-Vee and benefits the Ray Center’s programs. Past recipients of the award include Norman Borlaug, Dan Gable, Ashton Kutcher and Peggy Whitson. Lazard is also known for his work supporting veterans through his nonprofit organization, At the Top.
