362 wordsAll Latest News, BPC News Releases, Key Leadership ChangesGood afternoon, Business Record readers. I’m writing today to share that we are promoting Sarah Diehn to lead our newsroom as editor of the Business Record.

Sarah is an award-winning journalist who has led our innovation coverage since joining the Business Record in 2021, and who has served since 2023 as our digital news editor, leading the production of the Business Record Daily e-newsletters.
As editor, she’ll expand her responsibilities to lead strategy and execution for the Business Record newsroom by leading our staff of reporters to plan, develop story ideas and execute coverage across our many digital and print platforms. In that capacity, Sarah will serve as the conduit to the community for all news questions and will be your primary contact should you need to connect with the newsroom.
Now a bit more about Sarah and her background and why we feel so fortunate to have her spearheading our newsroom.
Originally from Urbandale, Sarah graduated from Des Moines Area Community College, where she got her first journalism experience working on the student newspaper the Campus Chronicle. She received her bachelor’s degree in news from the Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communication in May 2021.
While at Drake, Sarah joined the Business Record newsroom as an intern. She produced a series of stories on the decline of Iowa birthing units, which received the top award for explanatory journalism from the Alliance of Area Business Publishers (AABP), an organization consisting of more than 40 business publications from across the country.
After graduating, Sarah joined the Business Record staff reporting on innovation and entrepreneurship and leading the production of the innovationIOWA Weekly e-newsletter. For the last two years, she has been named the top innovation beat reporter in the country by AABP.
We’re very fortunate to have a journalist of Sarah’s quality leading our newsroom and I know given her commitment to the community and her track record of excellence, she will serve our goal of helping you do business better through our coverage. Please join me in congratulating her on the role. Sarah can be reached via email at sarahdiehn@bpcdm.com and you can connect with her on LinkedIn here.
