The University of Iowa is joining colleges and universities in 62 U.S. cities to present “Living Leadership: The Power of Executing Greatness” Nov. 5. Speakers for the event include former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani; Stephen R. Covey, author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”; Ken Blanchard, who wrote “The One Minute Manager”; former NBA star Magic Johnson; Marcus Buckingham, author of “First, Break All the Rules: What the World’s Greatest Managers Do Differently”; John C. Maxwell, who wrote “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”; and Gary Bradt, who has created a process to revolutionize businesses using the book “Who Moved My Cheese.”

The Living Leadership program will also include an executive panel consisting of Larry Bossidy, former chairman and CEO of Honeywell International Inc.; Tami Heim, president of Borders; and Patricia Sellers, editor at large for Fortune magazine. Those planning to attend are encouraged to visit www.livingleadership.com to submit questions and descriptions of workplace challenges. After giving their presentations, panel members will select scenarios to discuss and questions to answer.

The speakers will appear at the Atlanta conference, and the program will be relayed by satellite to all of the other locations, including the Des Moines Marriott, 700 Grand Ave. Businesses can request satellite downlinks to bring the speeches into the workplace.

“We were contacted by the group organizing it nationally to see if we wanted to participate,” said Terry Heinichen, assistant director of the Executive M.B.A. Program for the University of Iowa. “We think it’s going to provide a stimulating discussion of leadership issues. Any time there is an opportunity to focus on leadership, business people win.”
