Local food expert to speak June 26

On June 26 local food expert Ken Meter will discuss “The State of Our Plates in Central Iowa: Food, Economics, and Health” at 8 a.m at Polk County River Place, 2309 Euclid Ave. in Des Moines.

The event is the fourth in a speaker series for The Tomorrow Plan and is supported by the Polk County Health Department and United Way of Central Iowa.

Meter, author of “Finding Food in Farm Country,” is recognized as one of the most experienced food system analysts in the United States. He is president of Crossroads Resource Center in Minneapolis and convener and co-chair of the Community Economic Development Committee for the Community Food Security Coalition.

Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
