The Des Moines Area Association of Realtors this month donated $64,000 to Central Iowa organizations that provide food and other services to people in need. “We decided as an association that Realtors have done well during the pandemic and so many others haven’t that we needed to give back to the community,” said Lance Hanson, the group’s president. The association donated $1,000 each to 34 community food pantries; $20,000 to the Food Bank of Iowa and $10,000 to Children & Families of Iowa, he said. Real estate agents in the Des Moines area in the first six months of 2020 sold 6,681 houses, 6% more than the same period a year ago, according to association data.
Iowa Stops Hunger is a yearlong Business Publications Corp. initiative to bring awareness and action to food insecurity in Iowa.
