The Iowa Lottery set a record for overall sales in fiscal year 2018, buoyed by the fourth straight record for sales of instant-scratch tickets. Preliminary figures released Friday show that the Iowa Lottery generated nearly $87.1 million in proceeds for state causes in the year that ended June 30, the second-highest in the lottery’s 33 years. Total annual lottery sales were a record $371 million, and players won $227.5 million, another record. Lottery proceeds support services for veterans, boost the state’s general fund, back the Vision Iowa program, and assist community projects and school construction.
