Lutheran Services in Iowa announced that the opening day of the Global Greens International Market is Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Polk County Public Health Department at 1907 Carpenter Ave. in Des Moines. The market will run every Saturday through October and include a plant sale and a farmer sales booth with early-season vegetables. Plants for sale will include kale, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, eggplants, dalleys, fatalii and bitter melon plants. “As our Market grows, we’re dedicated to offering more opportunities for immigrant and refugee-owned businesses to thrive alongside our local farmers,” Natalie Estrem, LSI markets specialist, said in a prepared statement. “This year, get ready to explore an even more diverse array of offerings as we introduce exciting new merchandise and welcome international vendors to our market.” Attendees can sign up for LSI Global Green’s community supported agriculture (CSA) boxes, a seasonal subscription delivering naturally grown vegetables weekly. CSA boxes are available through October and offer three sizing options.
