Mad Meatball, a popular pizzeria that had been located in East Village, is opening at 4 p.m. today in its new location in street-level space at Linc at Gray’s Station at 210 S.W. 11th St. in downtown Des Moines. Mad Meatball closed in April 2019; that October it announced plans to re-open in Hubbell Realty Co.’s apartment project. “While leaving the building we [had] called home for so many years wasn’t an easy decision, we know that this prime location at Linc will give us a great connection to downtown residents and visitors as well as more space to grow,” Andy Hartman, co-owner of Mad Meatball, said in a prepared statement. “Our improvements took longer than anticipated, but we’re extremely excited to reopen and welcome back our many die-hard Mad fans.” The restaurant’s new space has more than 3,000 square feet that includes a three-sided bar and an outdoor patio.
