Majority of Iowa stocks post gains in May

Ten of the 16 Iowa-based companies on the Business Record’s Iowa Index posted stock price gains for the month of May, one being a double-digit percentage gain. Six Iowa-based stocks posted losses; two posted double-digit percentage losses.
United Fire Group Inc. had the largest gain of the month with a 10.65% increase. Principal Financial Group Inc. had the second-biggest gain at 7.03%. HNI Corp. had the third-biggest with a 6.99% increase.
Workiva Inc. posted the biggest percentage loss at 24.35%. Flexsteel Industries Inc. had the second-biggest loss with a 10.19% decrease. Lee Enterprises Inc. was third with a 9.34% decrease.
The Iowa Index, an unweighted average price of 16 Iowa-based public companies, decreased 0.76% in May, compared with a 2.05% decrease in the Nasdaq stock index and a 0.04% increase in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
The Iowa-based companies that make up the Iowa Index are in bold in this list of companies with sizable operations in the state.
