Majority of Iowa stocks post gains in October

218 wordsAll Latest News, Insurance & InvestmentsThirteen of the 17 Iowa-based companies on the Business Record’s Iowa Index posted stock price gains for the month of October. One company posted a double-digit percentage gain in the month. Four Iowa-based stocks posted losses, with one being a double-digit percentage loss.
Renewable Energy Group Inc. had the largest gain of the month with a 27.49% increase. American Equity Investment Life Holding had the second-biggest gain at 7.78%. Ames National Corp. had the third-biggest with a 6.64% increase.
On Oct. 7 it was announced that Meredith Corp., producer of magazine titles such as Better Homes and Gardens and People, will be acquired by InterActiveCorp.’s Dotdash for $2.7 billion, in a deal that is expected to close by the end of the year.
United Fire Group Inc. posted the biggest percentage loss at 11.56%. Flexsteel Industries Inc. had the second-biggest loss with a 9.33% decrease. Lee Enterprises Inc. was third with a 7.46% decrease.
The Iowa Index, an unweighted average price of 17 Iowa-based public companies, increased 3.30% in October, compared with a 7.27% increase in the Nasdaq stock index and a 5.84% increase in the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
The Iowa-based companies that make up the Iowa Index are in bold in this list of companies with sizable operations in the state.
