The March/April dsm Magazine was unveiled Tuesday at the Willow on Grand in Des Moines.

You can read the full issue here.

Here are two of our favorite articles:

Free Food for All: Five years ago, the Drake Neighborhood Little Free Pantry Project installed its first wooden box as a community food initiative with the guiding principle to take what you need and leave what you can. Given the speed at which these pantries are emptied—usually within a few hours—the need for them continues to grow.

At Home on the Road: When COVID-19 hit, Jason and Emma Walsmith’s income nosedived within a few days. The Nadas, the popular band Jason co-founded in 1995, play at venues and events across the country. But in March 2020, the performances the band had booked were canceled. Jason and Emma’s other income sources at the time—his photography business and her ticketing company, Tikly—also relied on live events for income.

4 Filling Restaurant Salads Full of Flavor: If you think all salads are either starters before a meat and potatoes meal or simply “rabbit food,” here are main dish salads to convince you otherwise. Salads are one of the best ways to sneak more produce into your diet. And that’s something a growing number of us are aiming to do to offset some of our animal product consumption. Case in point: One of Whole Foods Market’s top 10 food trends of 2022 is “reducetarianism,” which describes those who aren’t quite vegan or even vegetarian, but who focus on eating less meat, dairy and eggs, mainly for environmental reasons. Regardless of the reason, if you’re looking to turn over a new leaf, order any or all of my four current favorite filling and flavorful salads.
