Two Mars Cafe locations will come under new ownership at the end of 2020, while a third will be owned by a longtime manager and operate under a new name, the Des Moines business announced today. Kuuku Saah and Cesar Bracho Saavedra will take over the Drake neighborhood cafe and the downtown Side-Bar, while longtime manager Daniel Bosman will take over the East Village location next to Raygun, changing its name to Daisy Chain Coffee. In the release, the current owners, Martian Investors, said they are happy to see something positive come out of a difficult year with the transfer of ownership that will keep the legacy of the business alive. Saah and Bracho said they are looking forward to continuing the Mars legacy. “As immigrants, we are excited for Mars spaces to reflect not just Des Moines but also elements of Ghanaian and Paraguayan culture,” they said in a news release. Bosman said the transition is the culmination of his ambition to own his own coffee shop. “I’m honored to have been a part of Mars for so many years, and I think this is the best of both worlds: Mars can continue under great, new ownership, and I can fulfill a dream of running my own small shop,” he said.
