Marshalltown Arts and Civic Center announces grand opening
The Marshalltown Arts and Civic Center will celebrate the renovated community center and art gallery’s grand opening on Sept. 18 with a ribbon-cutting and tour of the building. The more than $8 million renovation to the MACC follows damage to the building from the EF-3 tornado in 2018 and the 2020 derecho. The Fisher Art Collection, which was donated by Bill and Dorothy Fisher and is housed in the MACC, was at the Conservation Center of Chicago at the time of the derecho, sparing it from damage. The artworks are returning to the Fisher Art Museum in the MACC after undergoing a $200,000 restoration in Chicago. The art collection includes works by artists Mary Cassat, Edgar Degase and Henri Mattise.
