Marshalltown Sutherland Station set to close
Alliant Energy Corp. filed for regulatory approval for its proposed gas-fired plant this week. If the company is given the go-ahead to move forward with its project, it plans to close three of its coal plants in Marshalltown, Dubuque and Sherburn, Minn., the Marshalltown Times-Republican reported.
The Marshalltown Sutherland Station, which will likely close in December 2014, generates approximately $1.4 million in property taxes. The proposed natural gas plant, which will also be located in Marshalltown, would bring in an estimated $1.7 million yearly.
Alliant will give the 23 employees at the Sutherland station and the 12 employees at the Dubuque station the opportunity to fill the 20 to 25 positions at the new plant.
