McGowen, Hurst, Clark & Smith announces leadership transition

Robert McGowen, CPA and managing partner at McGowen, Hurst, Clark & Smith P.C., has transitioned out of his role as the firm’s managing partner. McGowen joined the firm in 1970 and became managing partner in 1993. Through his leadership, McGowen has been instrumental in building the West Des Moines-based firm into one of the Midwest’s leading CPA and business advisory firms with more than 65 employees. “I feel both privileged and proud to have watched MHC&S grow over the past four-plus decades while serving the needs of our clients,” said McGowen, who will continue as a partner. The firm has named David Farnsworth and Daniel Schwarz as co-managing partners, effective July 1. Farnsworth, a graduate of Simpson College, joined the firm in 1999. His area of focus has centered on tax planning and consulting for entrepreneurs and their businesses. Schwarz, a graduate of Hawkeye Institute of Technology, joined the firm in 1990. His areas of expertise include business valuations, family held businesses and corporate finance.
