In honor of the 2014 National Make a Difference Day last October, nearly 400 volunteers packaged more than 100,000 meals with Meals from the Heartland, marking the organization’s first large event held at its facility in West Des Moines since it opened last spring. In recognition of these efforts, Meals from the Heartland was named a USA Today National Make a Difference Day Award recipient and was given a $10,000 grant to use toward its mission to feed the hungry in Iowa, across the United States and around the world. Representatives from Meals from the Heartland will travel to Washington, D.C., to accept the award on Wednesday.
