The Iowa Office of the Ombudsman is crediting a rise in complaints to the office to a 157 percent increase in cases connected to Medicaid managed-care organizations, the Cedar Rapids Gazette reports. The report included examples of complaints, including one that took 18 months to resolve. In that case, an unnamed company that provides care for Medicaid members reported that a managed-care organization owed it $289,000 in unpaid reimbursements. Ombudsman Kristie Hirschman stated she had yet to be convinced that the Department of Human Services “is providing adequate oversight” of the managed-care organizations.
